Initial Questions for Students and Parents

These questions are meant to provide a tutor with some relevant information about students and parents, and to raise for discussion the ideas covered in the Course Material. Even if you’re working through the course without a partner, I recommend considering these questions on your own.

Students:
– Having read the Course Material, do you have any questions about them? What are your thoughts on the course so far?
– What kind of student are you? What are your strengths, weaknesses, study habits, likes, dislikes, etc.?
– How do you feel about school?
– What are your extracurricular activities? How do you spend your free time?
– How confident are you in your ability to direct your education responsibly? Why?
– What questions do you have for me?

Parents:
– Having read the Course Material, do you have any questions about them? How do you feel about the course, generally?
– How involved would you like to be in the course? (For example: following the reading your son or daughter does; discussing the reading with them, as well as their interests and thoughts on education; participating in lessons the tutor has designed for parents; pursuing your own education-based reading list or independent study curriculum.)
– What kind of student is your son or daughter?
– How confident are you in their ability to direct their education responsibly? Why?
– What else do you think I should know (regarding you, your son or daughter, their education, etc.)?
– What questions do you have for me?
